The 22nd century. Humanity has joined the interstellar trade network of the Tahuyan Empire, and with the network came a new magic: standardised, licensed, safe. Setting grav sails, navigating hyperspace — all to Tahuyan specification.
Peter „the Grey“ is a hyperspace mage. But he comes from a time when humans still invented their own magic. A time eddy threw him a century forward. At the Lunar Academy of Arcane Arts in the Moon city of Armstrong he has to learn everything again — and hide that he still commands the old, outlawed „witchcraft“.
Then a shipboard crisis forces him to use exactly those abilities. A fellow student is abducted by revolutionaries. And Peter begins to understand that the academy leadership knows very well why the old magic was banned.

Two magics
Tahuyan magic is standardised and controllable: you learn it in courses, you get certified for it, it rarely fails. Human „witchcraft“ is older, more intuitive and unpredictable — and forbidden for exactly that reason. The conflict of the book is already contained in that split: whoever makes a system safe also decides whose skill becomes worthless.
Armstrong
The city lies beneath a shimmering magic dome on the Moon, above a labyrinth of tunnels, chambers and training halls etched with protective runes. Above the surface stands the Garden of Artemis: alien flora, trees with luminescent trunks that move in step with the Moon's magical tides.
