Reika is an apprentice at the mage fortress Kjasz, and she has a gift no one else has: she perceives magic with all her senses. She tastes a binding spell, hears the hum of a portal, feels foreign power on her skin. What she cannot do is steer that magic. She is an instrument with perfect pitch and no fretboard.
Then she wakes in a slum of the royal city Lyandra. No road there in her memory, no hours she can hold on to. And back at the fortress, the Soul Dagger is missing — a relic that tears magic and souls out of living bodies.
The archmages are fighting for the title of Grandmaster. Every one of them would have a reason to hold the dagger. Every one of them would have a reason to push an apprentice with no memory into the gap. Reika has to find out what happened in those missing hours — before someone decides she had better not remember.

The world
Lorr is a secondary world with its own history, peoples and magic. The royal city Lyandra and the mage fortress Kjasz are its two centres of power; portal magic connects Lorr to the mirror world Naan and to Earth. Alongside humans, the Sserdou and the Grathoi live here — with interests of their own, not as scenery.
What it is really about
Access. In Lorr, magic is not a force of nature open to everyone but an administered resource. The fortress decides who may be trained. The Grandmaster decides who may own it. The Soul Dagger is the shortcut that bypasses the entire system: it simply takes magic — and the soul along with it.
Status
35 chapters are planned. Drafting and editing are under way. The German edition comes first; the English translation is being built in parallel. Publication date and retailers will be announced on this page as soon as they are fixed.
